Piazzale Michelangelo, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio
~ Aaron
I had a great time during this last day in Florence. The Piazzale Michelangelo offers a great view of the city. The Piazza della Signoria has a large model of the David. The Ponte Vecchio is very old. This was a fun day in Florence.

The Piazzale Michelangelo contains a bronze model of Michelangelo’s David. The piazza was designed by Giuseppe Poggi in 1869. As its name suggests, the piazza was dedicated to Michelangelo, and some bronze models of his artworks were brought to the top of the hill. We climbed many steps to get to Piazzale Michelangelo.

The Piazza della Signoria stands right in front of a medieval castle. There are many statues collected right outside it. Some are by very famous artists, such as the David and a statue of Perseus holding Medusa’s head. All of the sculptures have something to do with Roman or Greek mythology. The Old Palace is in this piazza, which is the town hall of Florence.

The Ponte Vecchio was built in 1345. Butcher shops used to be along the Ponte Vecchio, but they were replaced because of the Medici. The walkway specially built for the Medici connecting their palace with the rest of town crossed this bridge, and the smell was too horrible for the Medici to stand. Now, jewelry is the thing sold the most in this place. It is sometimes said that the word bankrupt came from this bridge.
This was an exciting time in Florence. The Piazzale Michelangelo is an awesome viewing point for all of Florence. The Piazza della Signoria has many amazing sculptures. The first bridge where the current Ponte Vecchio is was built in Roman times! I wish I could have spent a few more days in Italy.
