Italy Day 5 - Venice Day 1 by Gordon, Night at Grand Canal of Venice
Night at Grand Canal of Venice

Night at Grand Canal
My first night in Venice was all about the water bus ride. Guess what? Venice is on water. Venice has many titles, including “City of Water”, “City of Masks”, “City of Bridges”. After a full day in Milan, we choose to take the train to Venice, instead of staying at Milan for the night. We could not wait to spend a beautiful night at Venice. The train took us to the main island of Venice. We bought the 24 hour pass, which covers all the public transportation, the bus, the water bus to all canal, and even water bus to Murano and Burano. The Grand Canal was very pretty at night and the water bus was relaxing and cool to ride on with a nice breeze. We had a great time at St. Mark’s Square. We enjoyed many sights on the water bus along the Grand Canal. As you know, the main island of Venice is combined by lots of small islands. Unlike any ordinary island, it has canals to connect between islands, not cross packages. People build their houses, shops, and everything just right beside water! Basically, you can call this a man-made island. It’s very cool. At the end of our water bus, we arrived at St Mark’s Square. It took us about 10 minutes to walk from the dock to the square. St Mark’s Square was lit up very nicely. It was great to see St Mark’s Basilica at night as well. It looked nice with some torches. I liked it. This is what we saw at the first night in Venice. I had a lot of fun enjoying the city on water. It was amazing to see the night of the Grand Canal, St Mark’s Square and St Mark’s Basilica.
