Italy Day 9 - Part 1 Siena by Gordon, Siena Duomo, Piazza del Campo, Fonte Gaia
Day Trip to Siena from Florence
~ Gordon
Our Sunday at Siena was very fun. We met a band on our way to Siena Duomo. Siena Duomo was beautiful and huge. Piazza del Campo and Fonte Gaia crowded with tons of people. It was really fun to see Siena.
Siena’s duomo and city center is located on a very high hill. Luckily, the escalator of a mall brought us to the top of the hill. We finally arrived at Siena’s city center. Here comes the marching band. We listened to the band for 4 pieces, 2 pieces which we didn’t know. The other 2 was the Italy National Anthem and a famous Carmen piece. We had a great time listening to the live music in the morning.
We continued walking towards Duomo Siena. The cathedral is really cool with a lot of paintings on the floor. Wait a second! Not really paintings, more like finding rocks, shaping them into pieces, then putting them as a puzzle. They are Bible stories carving into white marbles. It looked really good, vast and cool. The library at the left corner of the cathedral has a fancy roof. It is so pretty that a mirror is offered to see the ceiling. In the library, we found books of old church choir notes.
Piazza del Campo is huge with a giant bell tower. A giant clock is on the tower. There is Fonte Gaia which is a must see of the piazza. Palio di Siena, Siena’s famous horse race place, is also nearby. The horse races are held twice a year. We barely missed it.
Siena was fun with the Siena Duomo, the Piazza del Campo, and Fonte Gaia, and a wonderful band. There was a lot of cool things, so I wish we could go again!
