Walking Towards Duomo di Milano

On the way to duomo

San Giuseppe

We took an overnight train from Rome to Milan. When we arrived at Milan, it was 7 am in the morning. We had a yummy little breakfast on the way walking to Duomo di Milano. We walked by San Giuseppe Basilica and Teatro alla Scala.

We had a wonderful 3-hour city tour. The tour started from Duomo di Milano. Duomo means the biggest church in town. This duomo, Duomo di Milano, is the third largest church in the world! Earning the title One of the Most Important Fashion Capitals, Milan has the famous galleria, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. I learned a lot of other history with a Chapel of the Bones! The duomo was completed very recently, like 50 years ago. There was a galleria, full name Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which is big, which has a lot of funny things with some stories. We visited the Chapel of the Bones. Do you know why it’s called that? Read on to find out.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was very fun. There are many Mosaics of different legends on the floor. There is Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, or there is also many others like a bull. If you twirl on the bull’s hip, you can have good luck. It is very popular to do so. There is a story about the roof. Do you remember when there was no electricity? They had oil lamps. They made it like by setting a train to knock open lamps and release the gas inside and then light up that gas which would light the dome up. Smart!

The Duomo di Milano is very impressive. It is very spiky and looks impressive in Gothic style. The duomo has a golden statue of St. Mary. It is not the highest point, and factory is. What is the top of the factory? You guessed it! St. Mary. If you wander a bit, you can see an emblem with a serpent. It is called a viper because Dante wrote a poem about it and called it Viper.

The tour brought us to a Bone Chapel. It was very creepy. Why? They are made of human bones! A room with walls decorated entirely with bones, elbow joints or even skulls. They make shapes such crosses and lines as a beautiful decoration.

Milan is really fun with the city tour. We saw many interesting things. The Duomo di Milano was really grand with many wonderful facts. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was cool with cool floor mosaic. The Bone Chapel can be thrilling and bone-chilling. I like Milan.
