Italy Day 8 - Part 1 Pisa by Aaron, Leaning Tower of Pisa

Leaning Tower of Pisa

~ Aaron

Leaning Tower of Pisa

I had a fun time in Pisa. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most famous towers in all of Italy. Pisa is an ancient city. This was an excellent time in Pisa.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa was built in 1173 and finished in 1372. However, more adjustments are added to the tower, including one that stabilized the building by digging 38 cubic meters out from under the raised end. The 7 original bells were added from the 1200s to the 1700s, with one being remade in recent times. There is a story, saying that Galileo dropped 2 balls with different mass to show mass does not affect the speed of acceleration. We had fun taking pictures of us seemingly pushing down the tower or keeping it steady.

There is evidence that there was a city for trading near where Pisa currently is in the 5th century AD. This would mean that the land Pisa is on has older cities underneath. Pisa’s power as a trading city rose, but started to decline during the Middle Ages. During the height of its power, Pisa constantly tried to expand its territory, with some successes and some failures.

This was an amazing time in Pisa. The Leaning Tower of Pisa was very beautiful. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is safe as of right now. I wish I could visit Pisa again!
