Hong Kong is 1-hour ferry ride to Macau. In the morning, we carried all our luggage, walked to China Ferry Building, took the ferry to Macau.

Macau is cool with a lot of history. It was once a Portuguese colony from 1557 to 1999. Macau was both the first and last European colony in China. Because of the long period of colonial influence, Portuguese building, Portuguese food are easy to spot. There are also lots of huge modern hotel and casinos. We visited some hotel, an old church - Ruins of St. Paul and a fort with a museum.

When we get off the ferry, it started light rain. Macau is so convenient. Whichever hotel you decide to go, there is free shuttle. With all the big hotels around, I feel like I am in Las Vegas. Stored our luggage at the Venetian hotel, we leave for the Ruins of St. Paul by bus.

On the way to St Paul, we saw many interesting things. Municipal Council of Macau (IACM 民政总署), or Loyal Senate, was the local government structure in Macau. Basically, it is very much like a city hall. There is a nice fountain in front of the building. People sitting beside the fountain enjoying the afternoon, eating snacks and relax.

The crowds at Ruins of St. Paul
You won’t miss the Ruins of St. Paul. Why? Because of the crowds! The ruins contain the southern stone façade which was carved out between 1620 and 1627. It was nice to see a beautiful giant façade. The ruins used to be a 17th-century Portuguese church dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle.  Sadly, it was destroyed by a fire during a typhoon on the 26 January 1835.

The fort is right next to the ruins. It locates high up on the hill, and provides an awesome view to the city of Macau. Now, it isn’t a fort anymore, but an awesome museum. The fort was built between 1617 and 1626 on the 52 meters tall Mount Hill.

Fisherman Wharf is an attraction close to Ruins of St. Paul.  Rock It Party with band is celebrating the 2017 Macau Grand Prix. The wharf became so pretty with the music and many color lights. Don’t forget to take some good pictures of a nice mini Roman Colosseum at the back. Because of Macau Grand Prix, there happen to have very cool racing cars at the colosseum.

Macau Tower
It is already dark, time to leave for Venetian Hotel and get our luggage. The free shuttle Venetian took us to the Border Gate. We spent the night at Zhuhai. Early next morning around 7:50 am, we were already on a high-speed train to Yangshuo.
