Many places are very beautiful to stop by before the Grand Canyon. We went to Lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, Horseshoe Bend. Glen Canyon was very exciting, and had many land formations. Glen Canyon Dam is in Glen Canyon. Glen Canyon Dam is a reservoir to control the water of Colorado River and the Lake Powell.  Lake Powell is very surprising big for a natural lake. Horseshoe Bend provides a very good view and its name describe it. The long Colorado River has a bend in here.

Lake Powell is very large, and pretty for a natural lake.  It is the second largest reservoir by maximum water capacity in the United States behind Lake Mead. We went to an overlook. The overlook was pretty high above the Glen Canyon. So the giant Lake Powell looked pretty small. There is a little risk of falling down. The lake was named after a famous Governor, who explored the Grand Canyon by boat. His name was John Wesley Powell. It is a long drive to the bottom of the lake, so the overlook is the best.

Glen Canyon Dam is very beautiful. The 710-foot high concrete dam was built in 1956 and completed at 1966.  The dam is a man-made reservoir holding the water mainly for agriculture use through out Mojave desert. Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell who led the 1869 expedition which made him famous. The Colorado River was very muddy before building the dam. It was as yellow as sulfur. Now, thanks to the dam, the river water cleared out. It turns to the beautiful emerald green color.

On the way to Page, you can have many thing to see. The first trail to stop by is the Horseshoe Bend. You won't miss it. Many people come and it is hard to find a parking spot. Try not to go in the summer, for the very dry weather and high possibility for a heat wave. The first part  of the trail is very steep, and the main challenge is walking in the sand. But it is actually very worth it. The scene is pretty. The green giant Colorado River bends over here. The water cuts a horseshoe shaped rock in the middle.

Many places were very beautiful, before the Antelope Canyon. Glen Canyon Dam was very cool, and had many land formations. Lake Powell is very surprising big for a natural lake. Horseshoe Bend has a very good view of Colorado River. I had a great time.
