All of us had a wonderful time in the warm tropical area of Cancun, Mexico. We visited Isla Mujeres, played in the warm tropical Caribbean Sea beaches and the beautiful lagoon, and did many more things. Isla Mujeres has many things to do and also delicious food. The beaches were excellent with soft sand and warm waters.

The huge Chicxulub Crater

that hit what is now Mexico
The huge Chicxulub Crater, left behind when the Chicxulub Asteroid that probably wiped out the dinosaurs hit the Earth is right underneath the tip of Mexico. It is the third largest identified crater in the world! An asteroid about 10 km in diameter smashed into Earth, creating an impact crater of over 180 kilometers in diameter and 20 km in depth. However, it is already 10 to 30 kilometers under the Earth's surface. This is one huge crater created by such a small meteorite for its size.

My brother and I spent a lot of time playing in the amazing Caribbean beaches of Cancun, Mexico. We made many sand castles at those beaches. By working together, we made a sandy city, 5 actual sand castles, and a realistic turtle. Wet sand was perfect for making our sand ball fights. I even found a starfish arm while digging a castle! The beautiful Laguna Nichupte (Lagoon Nichupte) had wonderful sand beaches. But they were closed off due to the fact crocodiles and snakes inhabit the lagoon. These beaches were very nice and warm.

Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is one of the largest islands near Cancun. In English, it is called Women Island, or Island of the Women. It was so big that we spent an hour just to drive around the entire island by golf cart. Its area is 424.71 square miles or 1,100 km²! The east of Isla Mujeres is the warm Caribbean Sea and to the west, the skyline of Cancun can be seen. My family also ate a great chicken lunch. This is one great island.

These places by Cancun, Mexico are very fun. The airplane flight was worth the good events. Did you know that Cancun is right above the underground crater of the asteroid that likely killed out all of the dinosaurs? The beaches in Cancun sure don't make it seem like it's above a crater. Isla Mujeres is very great for walking around and exercising. I wish I could have stayed at this awesome place a bit longer.
